My Yuletide assignment was to write a story for one [archiveofourown.org profile] radondoran. My resulting story was So Late Into The Night, based on The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham. Once the character made it clear he was telling the story and in first-person, writing it was quite enjoyable if inevitably nerve-wracking!

Before I'd got that story properly started, a silly little crossover came into my head. I set those notes aside to finish and post after Yuletide (due to the anonmynity while the challenge is going on thing).

Today I finished and posted:

Lawn and Triffid by faviconKatherine
Fandom: Through the Looking-Glass - Lewis Carroll, The Day of the Triffids - John Wyndham
Rating: General Audiences
Characters: Alice, the Sheep, the Live Flowers, a Triffid
Summary: The water around them seemed to turn greener and greener and grassier and grassier, until Alice recognised she was no longer in the boat, but standing on a lawn. The next moment she saw she was in fact back in the very garden where she had earlier met the flowers.

I based the title off that Chapter V (Wool and Water) in Through the Looking-Glass, and actually resorted to the Oxford English Dictionary to check that the sense of "lawn" I wanted in use in the appropriate time. Helpfully, "A portion of a garden or pleasure-ground, covered with grass, which is kept closely mown" is marked as 1733 onwards.
