katherine: The Alot (a shaggy brown beast) wearing a santa hat. Words: I LIKE YULETIDE ALOT (yuletide)
I liked the commercial with sleep and wake animals that got nominated as a Yuletide fandom this year. (The internet supplies a video of a dog watching the commercial.)

My Yuletide assignment:
Just Can't Fall Asleep (1434 words)
Fandom: Belsomra "Cats and Dogs" Commercial
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Josephine didn't really think the butter would do much to distract Sleep from exploring and hiding, but it was worth a try. And it felt, a little, like involving Sleep in the move.

I got to thinking about the sleep and wake animals in other settings, and thus:
Motives (932 words)
Fandom: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Belsomra "Cats and Dogs" Commercial
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Data & Ishara Yar
Characters: Data, Ishara Yar, Spot
Additional Tags: Wake and sleep animals, Set during "Legacy"
In a universe where the majority of humans have wake and sleep animals, Data meets Ishara Yar.

This is why one has multiple drafts of a story. I'm not sure what an away tea is (might be tasty with lots of sugar) but I meant away team.

Among the stories I wrote for Yuletide are two pieces of The Giver fan fiction.

One character-focused:

Lily Remembering (1428 words) for puella_nerdii
Fandom: The Giver - Lois Lowry
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Lily (The Giver)
The morning Gabriel was to be released, Lily came to the table and saw only her mother there. "Your father went to his work early," Mother said.

"I don't get to wave bye to him. Or to Gabe," she said. "Or Jonas! What if they leave early tomorrow morning, and the next morning, and the next—"

Lily wanted to say that she felt angry.

One worldbuilding:

a mother too (320 words) for threeguesses
Fandom: The Giver - Lois Lowry
Rating: Not Rated
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
The Birthmothers are only a story the Community tells.

The concepts came up when I was discussing The Giver with my beta-reader in the process of writing the story that became "Lily Remembering", so in Yuletide Madness it was a joy to find threeguesses' request that mentioned worldbuilding and thus get to explore that set of ideas.

Of course I'm now toying with thoughts of how The Giver would work with daemons. Children in a dystopia with daemons felt sort of familiar... oh, right, I wrote a daemons piece for Matched some while back.

The muse said, well yes Yuletide but nevermind that right now get up and write Harry Potter's daemon.

So I did.

Alatus (237 words) by faviconKatherine
Fandom: Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling, His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger

A daemon taking the form of a dragon is hardly unusual in the wizarding world.

Pony textness

katherine: A line of books on a shelf, in greens and browns (books)
Texts with Graham from earlier today.

I sent him:
Thinking about pony slave au. Pinkie would b quite the owner. "Smile! Twilight, smile or somepony won't be allowed to read..."

Graham replied:
Yeah, Pinkie definitely strikes me as a top

I sent:
Ooh I want a scene like pet episode. So I could throw that line in while keeping in Rarity's pov.

I'm typing things into Written? Kitten! set on wolf images. Working on a story for Psychic Wolves for Lupercalia - A Multi-Fandom Mini-Fest.

Once I've got these pieces typed I need to get them in order, stitch them together, figure out what I've got and hunt down more possible names.

Today's My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic episode was pretty fun. (But then I would like it, it opened in Fluttershy's bedroom!)

Best letter to Princess Celestia ever.

Now to open up Written? Kitten! and see if there might be a bit of story coming out of that all.

Cat is nuzzling the ears of my XO in a not-actually-helpful way as I copy over the draft of a Yuletide Treat. One more story at least...

I've got my assigned Yuletide story posted, and a treat for someone random 'cause neat prompt, and eee a Mystery Work Part of Yuletide 2011 gift for me has appeared. In a few days I will get to read that!
katherine: Pink-haired, green My Little Pony toy held by anthropomorphic spotted cat. (holding toy)
I went along to a NaNoWriMo event (girlfriend wanted company at it) and quite enjoyed. A bunch of people sitting on public transit writing is a fun slow mob.

Typing away on my XO actually did get some words out of me. First draft of two unrelated, not all the way serious My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic AUs
