On the same mottled pink paper, this is an anthro' mouse. I intended her to be a Yellow-necked mouse but took some artistic license with the extent of browny-yellow in her fur.
Anthro mouse, lying with her nose hidden behind her arm. She has grey-brown fur with yellow edging to with on her sides and legs. Background is mottled light pink with grey-vilet shadows.

Pencil, Prismacolor pencil crayons, black fineliner pen, and white gel pen.

For the Vancoufur art show. Will be in a light pink mat.

Grand Canyon squirrels

Of course on visiting the Grand Canyon I was looking for wildlife.

Soon met a cute grey squirrel, fearless and all but dancing around on its back feet, then cramming peanuts into its cheek-pouches and putting up with many cameras.

Ordinary round-eared squirrel as far as I could see.

I was tempted (in the Grand Canyon Association bookstore) by Rascal: The Tassel-Eared Squirrel. Wound up getting a very cute stuffed animal of a Kaibab Squirrel, apparently they live only on the north rim.

Black fineliner pen, pencil layer for texture, then pencil crayons.

A piece for the VancouFUR art show.

Something of a follow-up to my 2008 piece Mothering, which was a Raccoon with Red Panda baby.

A couple of nights ago I happened across a video feed of three orphan squirrels being fed. Incredibly cute.

Too fast for me to actually sketch, so I did this as nearer inspired to than even a composite:

Recently discovered a gorgeous sweet book, The Subway Mouse by Barbara Reid. The illustrations are done with Plasticine and paint and found objects.

Got to share said book with my beloved that very day and she liked it too. Later that day she asked me to write labels, and I salvaged one I started wrong (U and then the loop of a wrong letter) into an egg and a mouse with a loop in its tail.

The rainbowy colours in the background came about somewhere in the digital camera failing in not bright enough light and today's attempting to adjust levels in Photoshop flow. But I decided I like the effect.

Mice are a theme of the week. Graham and I went camping this weekend and there were mice running in and out of the cabin. They were incredibly cute.

Pride colours

As usual, Pride was awesome.

Lots of running around excitedly, an appropriate number of interludes of sitting, and a certain rabbit collected as close to a full rainbow of party beads as she could (there didn't seem to be any orange) to go up my arm.

How much did I enjoy the Parks Canada green beaver temporary tattoo on my other arm? (It's their centennial logo, visisble here: http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/ab/banff/ne/calendrier-calender.aspx )

For the occasion of a friend's birthday, am at a restaurant called Goldfish. Had pork ravioli in coconut milk sauce: enjoyable fusion.

Birthday gerbil liked his card. Drawn in: pencil, pencil crayon, black ballpoint pen, and white gel pen.

Apropos of nothing, Melanie Milburne's Bought For Her Baby is not a Harlequin romance which I will be keeping.

The style does not work for me.

The second sentence: "A shiver ran up her spine like a handful of mice making a tiny nest in the fine hairs on the back of her neck".

We went to Granville Island today, Graham and I: walked over while his car was getting checked and mildly futzed with in preparation for next weekend's long drive down to All Fur Fun.

We went into Opus and I got a few individual Prismacolor pencil crayons, supplementing my collection. I really needed more greys (I only had a very light grey, and black), and a couple of the beige-browns came home with me too.

I'm now coloring my tenth and maybe but probably not quite final picture for the con, and tried out the darker of the new greys on the tip of the Mouse's ear. I think I'm in love with this French Grey 90 percent.

Later edit:

Finished the picture after midnight.
