katherine: You have been chosen to ride the Kingdom Chums' Love Light text against blurry rainbow colours (kingdom chums)
My interlibrary loan of the Kingdom Chums book Little David's Adventure arrived! I like it rather a lot.

Much enamoured of the title page (art is by one Janet Stevens).

Title page

The back cover copy is rather fabulous, and describes how the human children "meet Christopher, the princely lion of love, Magical Mose, the snappy-looking tiger of trust, and especially Little David, the Kingdom Chum of courage".

I like the description of Mary's "favorite stuffed animals—Christopher, her loving lion with the glistening blue eyes; Magical Mose, her snappy-looking tiger with his purple and white checkered bow tie and wing-tipped shoes; and Little David, her cute raccoon with sneakers and an orange and white checkered headband."

Little David's Adventure illustration

When the children meet the Kingdom Chums as talking animal characters, they've gained some clothing. "Christopher was also now wearing a long scarlet robe adorned with a heart of red and white checks." While Mose has gained not only a cape but a wand.

Christopher explains: "you have been chosen to ride the Kingdom Chums' Love Light"...

My favourite line:
"And a little child shall lead them," Christopher murmured to Magical Mose. The lion and tiger smiled knowingly at each other.

Kingdom Chums art!

(Drawn in pencil on beige cardstock.)

Anthropomorphic Tiger and Lion

Marvelous Mose (in his policeman gettup from "Stop Before You Steal") and Christopher the Lion of Love.

Ever so slightly suggestive if you squint. I'm all for squinting, of course.

Robotic Tiger cub

A couple of weeks back a thrift store jaunt resulted in me walking out with a bag full of books and one stuffed animal: a FurReal white Tiger cub, spotted as I looked through the various stuffed animals. One of those recognising the brand by the style moments.

I was prepared for the toy to be broken or at the very least need batteries, and it was quite a surprise when I was at home fiddling with the mechanical piece in the belly looking for the battery hatch, accidentally hit the on switch, and found my Tiger cub moving and mewling and generally being cute and working.

This morning I finally got around to getting a look at the batteries to check in case they'd been sitting in there long enough to get corroded. The battery compartment door is held on by a screw, and the scewdriver set was out on the table after a great coffee-grinder malfunction adventure in the household.

No corrosion, and they're standard AA batteries, so I popped them back in.

Yay robotic Tiger cub!

Still haven't figured out a name for the little guy.

Today was cool, but I'm still behind on posting about the weekend in Spokane. I've been saving this until I'd done some sorting through the many photos and had some ready to share.

Eateries weren't all that are listed in the guidebook to the Spokane area. Also in there, under attractions, was a place called Cat Tales. The blurb about it was pushing the family fun at a zoo angle, giving an impression of a place which I at least wouldn't have been comfortable going to... but we checked out the website and found that the cats (and a few other animals) there are rescues, largely from the private sector.

We went on Sunday. It was amazing.

Needless to say we took many, many photos. A few of mine:

The Bobcats stole my heart.

I want to figure out who's who in the folder currently named Leopards and Jaguars: the only name I'm sure of so far is Maya, a melanistic South American Jaguar.

The Caracal, Monster, stayed cosy in his den.

The Servals ventured out despite the cold day, and oddly enough I took by far the highest number of photos of them. I haven't even started sorting through those...

I met up with Ryan at Chapters today (in the science fiction section, naturally) and had a good wander around it with him.

I came home with the cat set of magnetic poetry. Soon the fridge was covered with nonsensical arrangements of words carefully crafted poetry. Graham's
wild tiger plays with sad fish ball

is my favorite so far.
