With blue eyes

The Richmond Night Market opened a few weeks ago. We've been once, and it was as fun as ever. Then last night Camilla tugged me along to the much smaller night market downtown. It was very similar (and also had tasty things on sticks), although with the addition of the creepy scientology "free stress test" booth.

At another booth entirely, I was drawn in by a number of amazing little wooden carvings of monkeys, turtles, and the like, but what came home with me was a blue-eyed charmer of an Armadillo carved from some sort of white stone. With the help of Graham's steady hand at taking photographs, I'm showing her off.

My "Gaoicarus" animal-robot thing is very obviously a cheap knockoff in low-quality materials and coloring. He smells of rubbery plastic and probably-toxic paint, and one piece of the hard plastic has already broken.

I'm having a whale of a time.

I pulled out most of a foot to free a stump-tailed Armadillo. My Giraffe's head started out on sideways. I'm trying to figure out if the arms (Giraffe and Stag) do actually detach, or what. There definitely should be more legs. I have the (blue) head of a Rhinoceros...

Added 2:39 PM:
I got one of the arms off. Witness my quintuple-amputee Irish Elk.

It's an ill wind...

Graham and I arrived at the furmeet along with [livejournal.com profile] ravenwood_meow, and, for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, we didn't stay. We went to the Richmond Night Market earlier than originally planned, and had a great time. It's a much less hectic experience with fewer crowds!

I found a cool transformer animal-robot thing. It seems to be associated with Power Rangers in some way. It includes, among other beasties, a Stag, an Armadillo, and a Giraffe. (Yes, that last is what prompted me to hunt through the line of boxes). I'm getting the impression that it's likely a cheap knock-off, but that's fine by me. Now to dig out my little Beast Wars collection and pose metallic animals...

Of course we checked out the book stall. It's kind of like Book Warehouse crammed into a much smaller space and with more ripped dust jackets, and a great place for finds. (That's where I got the Bible Animals book, and I'm still hoping to see another in that series.) Tonight I drooled over saw a gorgeous hardcover of Gray's Anatomy: a facsimile of the 1901 edition, with gilt edges.
