katherine: The Alot (a shaggy brown beast) wearing a santa hat. Words: I LIKE YULETIDE ALOT (yuletide)
Unrelated things that happened recently:

Going to the Night Market with enough people willing to share that I was finally able to get a pork hock. Eventually there was gnawings on the bones-o.

I encountered someone who was waiting outside a store with her harnessed ferret. (The ferret kept trying to explore into the store to find her other person.) Stopping to chat, I even got to hold the ferret, who was sniffly-tickly.

Graham introduced me to the Sad Cat diary video. I promptly nominated it for Yuletide. "The authorities have closed the door to the bedroom" cat is clearly a Sand Cat, not actually domestic.

For characters, I nominated
"My food dish is now only half full" cat
"The authorities have closed the door to the bedroom" cat
"I have been stalking an insect on the wall" kitten
"To destroy the terrible plant" cat

Yum

A little burger with a "bun" made of rice is very filling.

Next time I may try the brown sugar milk tea, though the sign for that was at a different booth than my favourite booth for drinks.

The other Night Market is fun, also, and one of the stalls has ginger tofu pudding (simply a matter of putting ginger flavour over warm soft tofu, tasty).

I liked a certain tubular hippo pillow (much like these ones the internet is showing me) but it was a prize in a midway game, so not worth trying to obtain.

There was a big decorative pond elsewhere in the market, with koi in!

The Night Market was fun. First time I've got out to it this year. There are still many sorts of grilled things on sticks on offer. New this year, long waffle onna stick, topped with whipped cream, chocolate or caramel sauce, and a choice of the usual sort of toppings (sprinkles among them).

Yay Night Market

My first visit to the Night Market of this year this evening, and was fun.

As ever, food on sticks. I accidentally found myself in the Tornado Potato lineup and enjoyed what I got from there.

Got out to the Night Market, startlingly for the first time this year. As ever, great.

Tasty food on sticks. Also, deep-fried cheesecake.

I yearned after a big purple pony with silver hooves: inconveniently a midway prize.

What came home with me: two pairs of small rainbowy socks.

Noodles in soup

Original intention tonight was to go out to the Night Market, but there was rain all of a sudden, and we quickly came up with Plan B (what with being in south Vancouver already), and went to Wang's Beef Noodle House. It was very good. There were the beef rolls to be had this time, and (as reviewed) those were great.

I was very happy with my noodles in hot and sour soup.

Also a fascinating drink: sour mango slush.

Now for a lazy remainder of evening, with more laziness in the plan for tomorrow. Yay weekend!

On the way in to the Night Market tonight, at the sidewalky bit, there was, of all things, a chicken. Just wandering around and buck-buck-bucking to herself. I petted her (so soft!) and then people started asking me if they could pet the chicken. I shrugged and kept saying, it's not my chicken, but it doesn't seem to mind being petted.

Night Market again last night, introducing Graham's parents to it. In consequence we checked out the other-than-food stalls much more thoroughly than usual. The stall of books is gone, which is a significant loss, but there is a stall of candy now, so that's something.

At one stall of various trinkets I got a little box of pretty wooden discs with animal designs on them (for 50 cents, which is insane—not even any of the candy was that cheap) despite not knowing what the things are. Graham thought maybe stamps, but I was pretty sure it was some sort of a game, because the pieces are in two colors, and there is a sheet of instructions (not a word of them in English, of course).

So far as I can tell by poking around online (starting with Wikipedia, I admit; for this sort of thing it's useful) the game is Shou Dou Qi or Jungle, and the pieces are: Elephant, Lion, Tiger, Leopard, Dog, Wolf, Cat, and Mouse or Rat.

Bits and pieces

This past weekend was the first of the Richmond Night Market this year, and Graham and I went on Saturday evening. It was good. The extra especially good meat-on-sticks stalls are still there, although I missed a couple of others. I couldn't see any hot and sour soup, and where is my ginger pudding?

The cats are as adorable as ever. I wiggled the laser pointer for them yesterday, and both of them kept turning so fast they skidded, even on carpet.

Last night I dreamt that I was pregnant. With Chakats. One was tiger-patterned, and the other chocolate brown. My subconscious thinks I should have large fuzzy daughters, I suppose.
