The cats both stared hopefully since the resealable plastic bag the granola's in is similiar to the bag some of their treats come in. Then the cat who likes yoghurt stretched her paw up hopefully when I took the lid off that container.

Yum

A little burger with a "bun" made of rice is very filling.

Next time I may try the brown sugar milk tea, though the sign for that was at a different booth than my favourite booth for drinks.

Neat things

katherine: A line of books on a shelf, in greens and browns (books)
We went into the City of Rancho Mirage Public Library. It's very big and well-appointed. There's a painted ram in the hallway (one of the around the city art things I assume).

Then, just inside the library entrance, an aquarium. There was a binder with photos, species name, and first-person descriptions of the fish. Fun.

The books had spine stickers for all the genres pretty much, I saw at least YA (which clearly included stuff kids have to read in school, as in the section there was The Martian Chronicles and lots of Dickens), Westerns, and Science Fiction.

I admired some glassed-in shelves for a local authors collection.

Much further down the road, tonight went for Japanese food. (Amusingly to me Graham couldn't face the full length of the trip without.) Adventurously, I ordered a drink listed on the menu as Marble Soda. (I got strawberry flavour.)

Complicated to open and many instructions on the bottle. There actually is a marble in there, trapped by the shape of the neck.

So I was happy with that!

Actual dinner later.

Right now, chocolate icecream in a bowl with a cute cat design. Because I can.

Prophouse

Graham has now taken me to The Prophouse Café twice, and really like it. (Leopard-print chairs are a factor in that. Also garlic croutons.) The wall of thank yous from production crews includes one from The Sentinel I think season three set design crew but can't actually remember for sure now, might be prop crew? Or season two? Clearly confirming that provides a good excuse to return, should I need an excuse.

Pancake, apple butter and bacon breakfast ([livejournal.com profile] shaterri cooked) with the household was wonderful.

Driving in the rain in clogged freeway and arriving when Alexander James Adams concert was three-quarters over was significantly less so. Still got to hear Black Unicorn and a couple other songs with one story before the end.

Chatted with people of course, I will add or post up names once home with notes and an actual computer.

The line to pick things up from the art show / auction was epic, but we had patience and no expectation of efficiency so that was fine. A red fox snoozed with his spare (I assumed newly/bought) tail for a pillow.

Yay Night Market

My first visit to the Night Market of this year this evening, and was fun.

As ever, food on sticks. I accidentally found myself in the Tornado Potato lineup and enjoyed what I got from there.

Salt Tasting Room

Went to Salt Tasting Room through Dine Out Vancouver, and it was really, really good.

More casual than I expected: had a shared long table and the waitstaff were in blue jeans and black t-shirts, but that wasn't a disappointment, and it was a quite nice atmosphere.

The food was very good indeed, starting with an intense sweet salad with almonds, through various little bits of bread, and then the actual tasting plates. My absolute favourite was the piccalilli relish, but it was nearly a tie with a fabulous blue cheese.

And that blue cheese was accompanied by honey, so I had little pieces of bread with honey at the very end of the bread, meat and cheese main plate. My actual dessert: sherry trifle with cherries in, and a portion of a very chocolately eclair.

Amazing doughnuts

I have now experienced a maple-bacon doughnut!

From a place called Frost Doughnuts.

Yum.
