Dog covers

There exists a whole series of Harlequins (Love Inspired Suspense, too bad for my reading preferences) with nothing but dogs on the covers: Rookie K-9 Unit.

My favourite is either Honor and Defend (there's puppies!) or Rookie K-9 Unit Christmas.

Folded back the blanket

I may never get around to reading more than the first three or four chapters of Dakota Child, a Love Inspired Historical by Linda Ford, but I enjoy an assumption made by the hero:
The mewling sound came again, louder, more demanding. [...]

He put the basket on a stool before the fireplace. The warmth of the yellow-and-orange flames made her ache to hunker down and extend her hands. But she didn't dare move. Who knew what would trigger this man into action? And she wasn't about to hazard a guess as to what sort of action he might take. Instead she waited, alert and ready to protect what was hers.

He bent over and eagerly folded back the blanket to reveal the contents, then jumped back as if someone shot him. "It's a baby," he muttered. The look he fired her accused her of some sort of trickery. "I thought you had a cat."

Not an elf name

I've started reading Enchanted Paradise, a 1985 book I picked up a while back very likely solely because the cover is ridiculous.

There are elves with beards, which I object to. I said to Graham "Gleb is a bad name for an elf." He said that's a bad name for anyone. However, I've been re-reading The Clan of the Cave Bear lately and it's a name that would fit right in.

Steampunk Roomba

I picked up Perfect Ruin by Lauren Destefano from the library. There are gears on its cover which I did not notice until after reading a few chapters.

There's a steampunk Roomba:
The windup metal vacuum discus is repeatedly knocking into the corner, trying to find its way out. The copper is scuffed, the gears whining for their efforts.

The Giver on stage

I enjoyed seeing Gallery 7's production of The Giver. They used almost all grey costuming. Colour for the apple, a little bit of red lighting for moments of Jonas Seeing Beyond, and the memories (projected on screens at the back of the stage). They had Rosemary come on in the Giver's room as he remembered her, silent, and then moments from the end, placing the sled in the snow.

Sleep and wake animals

I liked the commercial with sleep and wake animals that got nominated as a Yuletide fandom this year. (The internet supplies a video of a dog watching the commercial.)

My Yuletide assignment:
Just Can't Fall Asleep (1434 words)
Fandom: Belsomra "Cats and Dogs" Commercial
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Josephine didn't really think the butter would do much to distract Sleep from exploring and hiding, but it was worth a try. And it felt, a little, like involving Sleep in the move.

I got to thinking about the sleep and wake animals in other settings, and thus:
Motives (932 words)
Fandom: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Belsomra "Cats and Dogs" Commercial
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Data & Ishara Yar
Characters: Data, Ishara Yar, Spot
Additional Tags: Wake and sleep animals, Set during "Legacy"
In a universe where the majority of humans have wake and sleep animals, Data meets Ishara Yar.

This is why one has multiple drafts of a story. I'm not sure what an away tea is (might be tasty with lots of sugar) but I meant away team.

Really, Filofax?

I expected two small sets of Filofax pages to arrive in an envelope, perhaps an envelope with a bit of cardboard. Not deep within a medium-sized box which contained a big wodge of packing paper and a padded envelope (one of the filled with lint extra-recycled ones no less).

The box is too small for the cats to even try to sit in, so right into the recycling it goes.

Microchip-reading cat flap

That is a thing I did not know existed: a cat flap that reads microchips.

Entirely irrelevant as we live in an apartment. But cool.
